The Matchbox Edition is a tribute to one of India's most overlooked design treasures—vintage matchbox art. Once a familiar part of everyday life, these miniature masterpieces captured the spirit of Indian visual culture through bold illustrations, typography, and storytelling. This collection preserves those disappearing artworks by transforming them into wearable timepieces.
Each watch begins with the careful selection of an authentic matchbox cover. A circular section is precisely cut from the artwork to retain its strongest visual composition and is then laminated to ensure long-term protection. Hour markers are thoughtfully positioned only where they complement the existing design, preserving the original artwork without visual interference. A reliable Miyota 2035 quartz movement is mounted beneath the dial, and the assembly is housed in a custom watch case featuring a 4 o'clock crown, enhancing comfort and everyday usability.

No. Each dial is cut from a real matchbox cover, so print registration, paper tone and wear differ from piece to piece. Two watches from the same run will not look exactly alike — that is the point.
Keep it dry. The dial is laminated paper behind mineral glass, not a water-resistant sports dial. Wipe the case with a soft dry cloth and store it away from direct sunlight.
The Miyota 2035 is a standard quartz movement. Any competent watchmaker can change the cell — typically every two to three years.

Find the box
We go looking for covers worth keeping — a design, an era, a printer who stopped printing decades ago.

Cut and laminate
A 28 mm disc is cut from the original cover and laminated, so the paper survives being worn.

Place the indices
Hour markers go only where they suit the artwork. If a marker would sit on the tiger, the tiger wins.

Case it up
A Miyota quartz movement is fitted beneath the dial and set into a brushed steel case, crown at four.
